French Teenager will not be sued for posting false Potter Translation

By M&C News Aug 13, 2007, 10:40 GMT

A news brief from France 24 reports that the 16 year old who posted a translation of J.K. Rowling’s final book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, will not be sued, according to the French publisher.

The agreement to not sue the boy was made by Rowling herself, as well as the publishing company. The boy said he wasn’t in any way looking to profit from the translation.

The article also reports that the investigators were impressed by the “near professional” quality of the translation.

The French translation is due for publication this October, under the title Harry Potter et les Reliques de la Mort.

Anyone choosing to engage in piracy and fraud can face fines. The article also mentioned that Rowling supports the idea "to remind people that piracy harms the basic rights of authors and creators."
