Stephen King comments on J.K. Rowling

There is an article in Entertainment Weekly where Stephen King discusses Rowling and her “Ministry of Magic”, and seems to think that reading is not dead for kids. That in fact, it never was. He does also offer some criticism: “Are the books perfect? Indeed not. Some sections are too long. In Deathly Hallows, for instance, there's an awful lot of wandering around and camping in that tent; it starts to feel like Ms. Rowling running out the clock on the school year to fit the format of the previous six books,” he states. King also compares the Potter books to previous children’s books series, and claiming much of the series success is due to the characters themselves being as well drawn as they are, as well as having grown up in the series, like that of the audience. He also addresses the idea of the reviews having been released against Rowling’s request to not have much insight. “When you have only four days to read a 750-page book, then write an 1,100-word review on it, how much time do you have to really enjoy the book? To think about the book?” King states in the article. This is a good point, especially since the article also mentions how people read the reviews, but ultimately those critics’ opinions: no one remembers them.
