Teenager detained for posting Harry Potter online
By M&C News Aug 10, 2007, 12:17 GMT
According to the Associated Press, a 16 year-old living in France was picked up by police and questioned for having posted an unauthorized translation of the final Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
The boy could face charges for violating intellectual property rights. The translation was done by himself, and he was not intending to receive any profit on account of it, the article states.
The boy posted his version just days after the July 21st release. Jean-Francois Menard will be the official French translator of the book.
This has not been the first time unofficial translations have been posted online. China is another country that shared its version.
The publishers are serious about this sort of thing, fearing that fake versions could run amok.
