Italian Filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni has died. According to the article in The New York Times, it was the same day as Swedish director Ingmar Bergman. Antonioni was 94.
“With Antonioni, not only has one of the greatest living directors been lost, but also a master of the modern screen,” Walter Veltroni, the mayor of Rome
told Reuters.
Antonioni was well known for his films that dealt with isolation and alienation. He directed “L’Avventura” in 1959, “La Notte” in 1960 and “L’Eclisse” in 1962. He also made the well known film Blowup in 1966 and The Passenger, starring Jack Nicholson in 1975.
