Ingmar Bergman was a filmmaker, and he died in Sweden at the age of 89. But in addition to being a filmmaker, Bergman wrote all his own screenplays.
Films like Wild Strawberries, The Seventh Seal, Winter Light, Scenes from a Marriage, Autumn Sonata, The Silence, Persona, and The Passion of Anna are only some of the few great films this great artist produced.
He is said to have made around 60 films. He also did work for television as well as the Swedish theatre.
Bergman was a great writer. His writing ranks with the best of playwrights Ibsen, O’Neill, and Strindberg.
He has had a tremendous influence on Woody Allen, where Allen’s films like Interiors, Another Woman and Love and Death have glimpses of Bergman throughout. Allen has called Bergman, “probably the greatest film artist, all things considered, since the invention of the motion picture camera,” as quoted in The New York Times.
