Robert Ludlum is still publishing after his death
By M&C News Jul 31, 2007, 10:00 GMT
12 novels have been published since his death 6 years ago. Yes, we are speaking about Robert Ludlum. The 13th book is due this September, according to The New York Times.
There is even a Robert Ludlum estate. Many big name writers have books written by unknown authors who are willing to give up the recognition. V.C. Andrews is an example. Dead since 1986, books with the name still surface, despite having been written by someone else.
Publisher’s feel they would rather use the names of these deceased writers to make more money, rather than trying to find a new and upcoming writer to take the place of the old.
This technique, however, is used with many genre writers, or in other words, books void of any literary merit, specifically romance, mystery, thriller, and those sorts.
Ludlum is the author of The Bourne Identity, which has helped launch a series of popular films starring Matt Damon. The Bourne Supremacy was released in 2004. The third film, The Bourne Ultimatum, is being released August 3.

I have decided to produce a brand new film which will be a thriller and will star Grace Kelly, Clark Gable, Marylin Monroe and Humphrey Bogart. There will be cameo roles for Maurice Chevallier, Audrey Hepburn and Edith Piaff. With a galaxy of stars like this, even if the film itself is absolute rubbish it cannot fail.
Obviously I will use little known actors to play the above but they will only be given a minor mention in the credits. The film itself will be billed with the others as the stars. It cannot fail. The suckers will pour in to the cinemas and I will have my money before they realise they've been had.
What do you mean it's fraud? If a writer who died in 2001 can produce twelve books from the grave and claim that they are his, why can't I pull the same stunt in a film?
When people ask, after enjoying one of my books, why it is not on the supermarket bookshelves, I tell them its because my name is not Robert Ludlum and prefer to publish under my own name, not his.
