Some Harry Potter books are missing pages
By M&C News Jul 26, 2007, 6:01 GMT
Seems the publisher was in too much of a rush to get the last installment of J.K. Rowling’s smash hit Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows ready for distribution that they forgot one small thing: page count.
The Associated Press reports that Scholastic said that of the twelve million books printed, several hundred have pages missing.
"Printing and distributing 12 million copies of a book is a Herculean task, and it is not surprising that some books would have printing errors," Scholastic spokeswoman Sara Sinek said in the AP article.
The article also reports that chunks of text were missing from various spots in the book. One woman discovered that after page 306, the next 33 pages were missing. The article also tells of another woman who was missing pages 19-50.
The publisher has announced it will replace any book with missing pages. In the mean time, many Potter fans are keeping their distorted copies as a memento of this huge event.

i like harry potter books and this is really getting on my nervous and i would really like the books to be cheaper and the pages should all be in their thiz iz really to much for harry potter fans 2 handle with and iz that 2 much 2 ask for.
are you 6 years old or what
Well if Shoran is six well done for mastering the language and if you aren't well done for having a laugh. Why can't Harry sort these books I'd like to know? I'm sure JK will write another one as surely she has to explain how Harry does it all, not sure if broomsticks are such a good idea though, they don't look very safe to me, maybe she can just give us the engineering instructions for flying Ford Anglia that Harry used. Portals can wait until later. Thiz would be a good ideaz!!
spidy .. he the Man!
man, i'm upset as all get-out... i was reading...and then...BAM!... pages 17-95 are missing!!! i mean, what the heck!! thats just absolutely nuts! now i have to go fix the problem and deal with the publisher to get ANOTHER book!! whatever... i'm just going to buy another one...thats probably their game anyways....bah
lol @ angry comments from little kids
This is the sort of event for which the sarcastic expletive 'Big Deal!' was invented.
500 defective copies of 12,000,000 books means one in 24,000 is defective.
That seems respectable.
And by eBay standards, that should render it as precious as a gold ring from Middle Earth.
Just got word that my boy's copy is missing pages 379-414 ... too bad as he's on an expedition to the South Pole and won't be able to get a new copy for 9 months!
I take it his girl will be on this journey to the south pole.
Well done!
As for HP, GOOD!

I am missing pages 643 - 674 - right in the middle of The Battle of Hogwarts! I think it is worse to have the pages missing at the end of the story! How can the defective books have so many different errors? It seems all the same pages would be missing, rather than so many random sets. Grrr.
wow, well im gonna keep my copy and do my own page count. then i'll just check out another harry potter #7 at the library. hopefully, theirs wont have pages missing.

It is normal in the printing process for a few books to have defects. Publishers typically just replace them at no cost.
It is cheaper for the publisher to replace a few defective books than check every single copy.
