Harry Potter might just be a dead end for kids
By M&C News Jul 12, 2007, 12:26 GMT
In a recent New York Times article, many were saying that they believed the Harry Potter craze to be a dead end, when it came to getting kids to read books in the future.
Before Harry Potter, the thought of kids being willing to wait in line for a book was unheard of, for with all the video games and I-pods competing for their attention, many don’t see a change in regards to reading habits shifting for the better once the series is done.
The article states, “federal statistics show that the percentage of youngsters who read for fun continues to drop significantly as children get older, at almost exactly the same rate as before Harry Potter came along.”
One might say that the decline isn’t just about kids, but for adults as well. Click here if you would like to read the full article.
