Another Harry Potter goes for big bucks
By M&C News Jun 28, 2007, 12:42 GMT
According to the Associated Press, another first edition Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, sold for $18,000 at auction. This beats out the last sale, which a first edition copy sold for $14,300. The auctioneers anticipated a sale between $10,000 and $20,000.
The reason for the book’s worth is due to the rarity of it, where it is believed that only an estimated 500 to 1000 copies were printed initially. Many are calling this a ‘phenomenon’ because it has only been around 10 years since the first run, and J.K. Rowling is not only still alive, but also quite young.
The last person to sell his book for $14,300 was a university student in Britain, looking to fund his college tuition. People anticipate the value in years to come, so many feel that the price is well worth it in the long run.
Makes me wish I had a copy.
