News on the interviews from the M&C Books editors

By Jessica Schneider May 29, 2007, 10:01 GMT

Each month M&C is planning to do an in-depth interview with quality writers much like the old Playboy interviews, (sans the skin) where we probe into ideas past that writer’s work and talk about craft, the arts, religion, sciences, etc. The idea for the series is to not only provide readers with something deeper and more meaningful to read, but also to encourage readers to seek out the books of these writers. Our first interview for the month of June is with National Book Award Winning author Charles Johnson. He won his award for Middle Passage, and his two other well-known novels are Oxherding Tale and Dreamer. Other guests we plan to have are Daniel Dennett and Steven Pinker for starters, as well as more that will follow each month, both fiction and non-fiction, ranging from philosophy, religion, science, psychology and the arts.

M&C hired Jessica Schneider (me) and Dan Schneider to run the books section as a means of gaining more readers. So far I’ve enjoyed writing these news posts, and I haven’t had too many complaints. Other things we’re planning on doing is posting some longer in-depth reviews as well as expanding the reviews to comics and graphic novels. But one step at a time.

We found this to be an opportunity where we can bridge the literary audience with that of more popular culture. To learn more about us, our website is www.Cosmoetica.com, and my blog is at www.jaschneider.blogspot.com. In the mean time, I hope you enjoy the M&C Books section and continue on as our faithful readers.
