Pope celebrates 80th birthday with his first published book
By M&C News Apr 16, 2007, 13:12 GMT

This will be the first book for Pope Benedict XVI. He began writing it back in 2003 when he was still Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger. The 448-page book, titled Jesus of Nazareth, will be released as two volumes, and this will be the first of the two.
In his book, Benedict meditates on the teachings of Christ, as well as criticizing the “cruelty” of capitalism and colonialism, as well as the power the rich have over the poor. In his attempt to express his "personal search for the face of the Lord", this book is not part of the Catholic Church doctrine, and so “Everyone is free, then, to contradict me,” he states. Benedict wishes to return to the fundamental questions of "What did Jesus truly bring, if He didn't bring peace to the world, well-being for all and a better world? What did He bring?” Benedict then responds with, “God. He brought God."
The German, Italian, and Polish versions will be available in bookstores on April 16, Benedict’s 80th Birthday, while the English translation will hit bookstores May 15. In the second volume, according to Rizzoli, the Italian publisher, Benedict will explore the birth, death and resurrection of Christ. Likewise, translations will include 16 other languages.
