Me and my old-fashioned writing ways, by Harry Potter's creator

London - Harry Potter-author JK Rowling has revealed that she is sometimes made to 'feel like something out of the 18th century' for her habit of drafting the boy wizard's adventures on scraps of paper, rather than the computer. The 40-year-old writer reported on her website Thursday that she encountered a problem while drafting her seventh and final book in the series, because stationery shops in Edinburgh, where she lives, had run out of paper. When she finished her last pad during one recent writing session, it took her 45 minutes to find a shop in the Scottish capital selling a replacement. Rowling explained that she prefers to use a pen and paper to draft her novels, rather than a computer. Rowling said the book was 'going well', but asked: 'What is a writer who likes to write longhand supposed to do when she hits her stride and then realizes to her horror she has covered every bit of blank paper in her bag?' 'And there's a university here! What do the students use? Don't tell me laptops, it makes me feel like something out of the 18th Century.' © 2006 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
