Fair comment! Shamus/Séamus Joyce doesn't even believe in himself, and the thought of thrilling a reader would bring him out in an embarrassing skin rash. The book does get a bit contemplative in places, and tends at times to disappear up the beauty of its own prose. But it is nice prose, isn't it? Please say it is. Respectfully, The Author.
