Crochet is making a comeback, not as doilies or granny squares but as trendy fashion accessories that compliment a modern woman’s wardrobe. Omdahl has compiled a well-rounded collection of crochet patterns that combine classic lines with unusual stitch applications. The first chapter begins with Labyrinth which makes effective use of single crochet and variegated yarn to create a scarf with plenty of visual impact. The corkscrew stitch takes on a different look when three strands, worked in self-striping yarns, are strung together with chained loops.

Shown in off-white and earth tones, the Circular Wrap with Sleeves is a bold, beautiful cardigan quickly worked in double crochet using DK weight yarns. Try working it in black with color saturated jewel tones for a dramatic piece of eveningwear. Mother Nature, a triangle-motif shawl would be an excellent way to use up those inevitable yarn scraps while creating a piece reminiscent of stained glass.

Patterns include colored stitch charts and row-by-row written instructions along with notes about construction details, tips and special stitch considerations. It is nice to see the stitches used referenced with the pages where they are illustrated or described. The glossary of basic stitches, abbreviations, unusual stitch instructions and resource guide are included in the back for easy reference. This collection of wraps just begs for those special yarns you’ve been saving and most projects are well within the capabilities of most crocheters.
