Book Review: Mortality by Nicholas Royle

By Sandy Amazeen Feb 12, 2007, 2:47 GMT

Whether witnessing a rare and fantastic rainbow over Buttes Chaumont that evaporated at a mysterious touch, the mad musings of a hypochondriac, or the strange fate of an aspiring actor cum pizza waiter, facing the myriad facets of mortality is the connecting thread that binds this strange, edgy anthology together. The settings roam across the globe from New York to Amsterdam, London to Naples and include the bowels of a hospital morgue to derelict apartments scheduled for demolition as backdrops for an assortment of neurotic or psychotic men and women. These are a delightfully deranged take on life, death and the rare gray areas in between.
