This light collection of three novellas opens with “Knightly Dreams” by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Taryn has decided to swear off men with the exception of Ben & Jerry’s after discovering her boyfriend and his secretary wrapped around each other at the office. A chance trip into a new bookshop will change her mind when the hero pictured on the cover of a romance novel comes to life. Sparhawk will do anything to avoid marriage to the singularly unsavory Alinor even if it means consulting with a witch. There is the opportunity for true love but only if Taryn can suspend disbelief and grab for her dream of being a writer.
Miranda is forced off the narrow winding road high above Monterey, CA and plunged into a coma doctors cannot explain in Rebecca York’s “Shattered Dreams.” Caleb, a renowned artist is pulled into Miranda’s accident and subsequent nightmare. As her ex-boyfriend, Caleb still feels the sting of her rejection yet doesn’t hesitate to fight his way into her nightmare, into her heart where he will find himself facing down a surprising pair of witches bent on killing Miranda.
A Shakespeare quoting cat must put aside his distain for Jake and help bring two decidedly lost souls together in “Road to Adventure” by Robin D. Owens. Shauna, Jake and Boris the cat meet up after death to examine the options put before them before deciding if they want to return to Earth and their former lives to learn necessary life lessons. It will take some serious growth and trust on all sides before Boris gains his road to adventure while Jake and Shauna stand to gain everlasting love.
Kenyon and Owens have contributed playful entries to this collection while York’s is a darker, more complex “who done it.” Kenyon has put a different spin on the book theme she used in “Fantasy Lover” of the Dark Hunter series. Owens signature use of telepathic cats can’t quite make up for the formula storyline. Entertaining light reading with a paranormal touch, this should make for nice waiting room or airport escapism.
