By Sandy Amazeen Apr 10, 2006, 19:28 GMT

Outraged over the murder of a fellow cop and werewolf, Jim London goes undercover in his wolf form. There\'s one complication--the new police-dog handler, Faith Weston, is sexy enough to bring out the animal in any man. Original. ...more
Knight returns to the Mageverse in this romance suspense that unites Merlin’s magical beings of vampires, fey and werewolves in a showdown against a corrupt police department led by an evil vampire witch. When Jim London’s close friend and fellow werewolf turns up dead under unusual circumstances while working as a police officer, Jim decides to do some undercover detective work of his own. In order to conduct his investigation unhindered, Jim assumes the guise of a highly trained police dog. It’s a role that puts him up close and personal with sexy K9 handler, Faith Weston who has been badly burned by her two timing ex-husband.
Jim wasn’t looking for a mate yet everything about Faith draws him to her even with the taint of death magic, a rising body count and a rouge werewolf on the loose. During an ambush by members of her own department, Faith is bitten by the rouge wolf, forcing Jim to reveal himself as he assists her through the first painful change. Jim finds educating Faith about the unseen world of Merlin’s magic and mythical figures much easier then convincing her that his heart is true.
It will take every ounce of their strength to counter the rising vampire threat and battle rouge werewolves all while keeping their species a secret from Merlin’s vampire warriors. If the vampires should learn of the existence of werewolves from Jim, his clan leader will see to it his entire family is destroyed. Yet it may take the combined power of vampires and werewolves to eradicate the threat posed by the twisted witch and her army of followers.
Fans of Knight and her alternate magical universe will enjoy this latest addition to the series. Although there is little new stuff here for the paranormal buff, the blending of Merlin and the knights of Camelot with werewolves is entertaining. The main characters are well developed with a nice tension level between Jim and Faith although occasional appearances by fey and vampires are less defined. The second of three Black Grails is destroyed with the assistance of werewolves making one wonder what surprises Knight will conjure up for the destruction of the third.
