I always looked forward to the next Decker novel. So, I was happy to see that Ms. Kellerman was branching out with Straight into Darkness. However, I got no further in the book than the point where it becomes apparent that Berg, a married man, has a mistress on the side. Right at that point I lost interest. From the jacket blurb, I thought this was to be about a heroic principled figure who takes on the Nazi machine. For me, it would take too big a leap of imagination for a man who cheats on his wife top have the moral courage to oppose the Nazis.
Secondarily, I was much disappointed to find that Ms. Kellerman is not above pandering to current tastes. At least I hope that she is pandering. I cannot believe that the person who wrote the Decker novels believes that people unfaithful to spouses can be truly faithful in other areas and with other people.
I have never read Kellerman until Strait into Darkness and I actually 'Breezed' through it. Great book left me wanting more. I have already told everyone to read it. It helps if you like historical novels.
