Book Spotlight: 'Glitter and Glam' celebrity packed makeup tutorial (VIDEOS)

A taste of celebrities featured will include Liz Gillies as Snow White; Audrina Patridge as Raquel Welch in One Million Years B.C.; Brandy Norwood as Queen Nefertiti; and Ariana Grande as Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz.

I first met Emmy award winning makeup artist Melanie Mills on the set of NBC's "Celebrity Circus" in 2008, and learned that all pro makeup artists are not created equal. Some, like Melanie, transcend the ordinary.

Melanie is a gifted visionary who can create fantasy and glamour the way race car driver Danica Patrick can round the curve.

Years later, Mills has established an amazing makeup line and has released her celebrity packed makeup guide  Glitter and Glam  with 12 stars transformed into iconic characters accompanied by the step-by-step approach to perfecting each look.

We see Liz Gillies reimagined as an evil Snow White; Audrina Patridge as Raquel Welch in One Million Years B.C.; Brandy Norwood as Queen Nefertiti and Ariana Grande as a wistful Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz plus many more.

In addition to showcasing techniques for creating fun, trendsetting looks, the book has easy to understand how-to tutorials for creating everyday – and night – glamour.

Melanie masters the daring and showgirl looks and breaks it down and shows makeups for every skin tone and teaches you how to recreate these color combinations, taking you through the steps to inspire you to break out of your everyday color palette. These looks are stunning for sure and make a statement, but fear not...for the more timid, the basics are covered too, as Mills offers great advice on how to prep skin and what to buy.

“Glitter and Glam: Dazzling Makeup Tips for Date Night, Club Night, and Beyond” (Penguin Group/Perigee Trade). Mills won her Emmy Award as head makeup artist for ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" while creating her own body cosmetic line, Gleam by Melanie Mills.

Mills also has worked on the Oscars and is part of the nakeup teams the Nickelodeon series "iCarly" and "Victorious."

Mills is a respected artist whose work was celebrated by MAC cosmetics in 2009, and at who is called upon to share tips in beauty and celebrity news magazines like Allure, Essence, Bold, InStyle, People, Shape and Us Weekly.

Behind the scenes, she’s often found designing the makeup for Fashion Week and Concept Fashion LA and NYC runway shows and original art installations.

Mills shares great behind the scenes stories with some DWTS alums like Jennifer Grey and Brandy. The makeup on the show has never been the same without her. Mills departed the series in 2010.

Look for the chapter titled Faces of the World, which shows Melanie's strengths in making up all ethnic groups, and reveals how incredibly gorgeous all the women of the world are. Iman is right! Fashion has a real problem right now in showing diversity.

But Melanie has always used women of color in her fashion shoots and prefers to work on African-American women and those unusual beauties, mixed race girls who fall between the cracks of traditionally sought-after models.

I particularly loved how she makes up Russian beauty pro dancer Anna Trebunskaya (Dancing with the Stars) who has two distinct looks in the book: One is the Golden Goddess’ her hair and face are stunning and this makeup is the most doable for many women. Her bronzed metallic makeup is subtle and powerful at the same time. In ‘Vogue’ her smoked up eyes are underscored with a perfect pink mouth.

Mills is a sunny California girl herself, and she counsels readers that fake baking is best augmented of course with her body makeup, Gleam, a liquid velvet potion that hides imperfections and smooths skin. She also uses MAC, Makeup Forever, Tarte, Beauty Blender, Armani, Christian Dior, Lancome, L'Oreal Mascara, Skinceuticals serums among her go-to items in her kit.

David’s thirty plus year passion for photography also came early. He borrowed his fathers camera on many occasions during college and developed and printed his own work.
