The first book in the series, Dragons of Autumn Twilight, will begin its graphical retelling of the Wizards of the Coast-published novels this August in an 8-issue series adapted by Andrew Dabb and Steve Kurth.
"Who didn't grow up on this series?" asked Andrew Dabb, writer of the adaptation, in a press release. "This trilogy by Weis and Hickman is the grail of fantasy fans everywhere. The following this series has had is amazing. It brought in a whole new group of fantasy readers and is as good now as it was 20 years ago. I'm excited to have a hand in re-telling the story."
Weis and Hickman tell of the world of Krynn. As dark forces marshal their growing strength, fear and fanaticism grip the land. With war on the horizon, a group of lifelong friends are reunited - a Knight, a retired Dwarven metalsmith, a half-elf, two barbarians, a gold-skinned mage along with his twin warrior, and a kinder - all outcasts in their own way. It will fall to these eight companions to prevent a cataclysm as the eternal struggle between light and darkness rages.
"It's been over 20 years since the first Dragonlance Chronicles novels were released and they've never really been done in comic book form,” Margaret Weis, a New York Times best-selling author, said. “We've all been waiting for this! I'm really impressed with Devil's Due and the quality of their artwork and storytelling. This is going to be a great project. I am so excited!"
Dragonlance Chronicles: Dragons of Autumn Twilight #1 (of 8) ships monthly beginning in August; each issue is $2.95 (MSRP). The property is under license from the Hasbro Properties Group, the intellectual property development arm of Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE:HAS) and parent company to Wizards of the Coast, Inc.
