Master of horror Stephen King to bring the epic Dark Tower to Marvel Comics

The comic series will mark the first time Stephen King has produced original content for an ongoing comic book project. The series will expand the saga of King's epic hero, Roland Deschain, whose quest to save the Dark Tower is captured in seven best-selling novels published over the course of twenty-five years. "Stephen King is a true literary master. We are thrilled beyond words to have him join Marvel on this exciting project,” said Joe Quesada, Marvel Entertainment's Editor-In-Chief and Chief Creative Officer Publishing in a press release. “The millions of Dark Tower fans are in for a real treat, and I'm sure many more will soon be hooked on this epic series through this historic comic project." King's unparalleled storytelling power will inform new stories that delve into the life and times of the young Roland, revealing the trials and conflicts that lead to the burden of destiny he must assume as a man, the last Gunslinger from a world that has moved on."As a lifelong fan of Marvel comic books, and as an adult reader who's seen comics "come of age" and take their rightful place in the world of fantasy and science fiction, I'm excited to be a part of Roland's new incarnation," said Stephen King in a Marvel press release.The comics will work in conjunction with the novels, further supplementing and defining the saga's mythology under the direction of the acclaimed author himself. The series will be illustrated by Eisner-award winning artist Jae Lee."I love Jae Lee's work, and I think this is going to be a dynamite partnership. Frankly, I can't wait," King continued in the release.

Pocket Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, will be releasing the last three novels in the Dark Tower series (Wolves of the Calla, Song of Susannah, and The Dark Tower) in 2006. Available in paperback from Scribner is a two-volume concordance to the novels compiled by Robin Furth, who is also contributing to the Marvel comic project. "The level of excitement and talent that Stephen King brings to the world of comic books is electrifying. We're proud and honored to be a part of what promises to be an industry-defining event," said Dan Buckley, Publisher and Chief Operating Officer of Marvel Entertainment, Publishing in the release.Two new Stephen King novels will be published by Scribner in 2006-CELL (with a protagonist who just happens to be a comic book artist) in January, and LISEY'S STORY in October. Having written over 40 novels, Stephen King is one of the most popular writers of all time, and is undoubtedly the world's leading horror writer. His books have been translated into 33 languages and published in over 35 countries. this is a new step in the great Stephen King's career, but I think think this is total B.S. The 'Dark Tower' series is to great to be made into a comic. I will try reading it, but it will take away the magic of the novels. Even so I will still be your biggest fan Mr. King (wordslinger).

Mr. King i dont think its a good idea cause the dark tower is way to big to be broken into so many smaller parts. Also you probally will have to wait longer to get them out because of the scetches on each page

Being a huge fan of Stephen King and Marvel Comics, I believe that this could quite possibly be one of the greatest things ever. I think it'll bring new life to The Dark Tower, as well as getting the story out there to many more people. (All we need now is a series of movies based on the books.)

there not making the novels into comics... there making the story of how roland got to where he was when the novels began, when he was chasing the man in black across the desert... i just hope they dont take away from rolands mysterious character

a series of films on this epic tale would be amazing i've read nearly all the books so far and i find i just dont want to put them down

i am a devoted reader of Stephen King and being the only one in my family that reads and has a education his books help me escape the normality of every day life. The gunslinger series was the first Stephen King books i have ever read and they are my favorite set of books i probibly ever red.The charactures are engaging and it helps you bond with them and also i was so engrossed in them i bought all the books in one go and read them streight after another and did'nt eat properly!! I love your work Stephen King and keep writing, lots of love Jessica Nesham aged 15
