The world of audiobooks have bloomed into a billion dollar business.
And like the Oscar nominated movie, “Her,” the voice inside your head acting out the dialogue of the writer’s words becomes as personal as if this narrator was speaking directly to you. This intimate exchange of story adds so much to the overall experience of simply reading a book. Theatrical flair and emotion are infused into the prose.
People actively look for their favorite narrators as they do for their favorite scribes.
This alchemy of dynamic storytelling magic has worked for author Ilona Andrews (husband and wife team Gordon and Ilona Andrews) and narrator Renée Raudman, who now have their first “original” collaboration “Clean Sweep,” out for fans.
This compelling audio version features an unforgettable heroine, a kickass hero, a pet you wished you owned, and crazy-good world building. Clean Sweep’s protagonist is innkeeper Dina. The seemingly innocuous setting peels away to Dina’s inn actually having sentient energy and powers to respond to her requests and emotions. This urban fantasy has something for everyone, including extremely descriptive and unusual creatures, including a Shih Tzu she calls “Beast”.
The official description:
On the outside, Dina Demille is the epitome of normal. She runs a quaint Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town, owns a Shih Tzu named Beast, and is a perfect neighbor, whose biggest problem should be what to serve her guests for breakfast. But Dina is…different: Her broom is a deadly weapon; her Inn is magic and thinks for itself. Meant to be a lodging for otherworldly visitors, the only permanent guest is a retired Galactic aristocrat who can’t leave the grounds because she’s responsible for the deaths of millions and someone might shoot her on sight. Under the circumstances, “normal” is a bit of a stretch for Dina.
And now, something with wicked claws and deepwater teeth has begun to hunt at night….Feeling responsible for her neighbors, Dina decides to get involved. Before long, she has to juggle dealing with the annoyingly attractive, ex-military, new neighbor, Sean Evans – an alpha-strain werewolf – and the equally arresting cosmic vampire soldier, Arland, while trying to keep her inn and its guests safe. But the enemy she’s facing is unlike anything she’s ever encountered before. It’s smart, vicious, and lethal, and putting herself between this creature and her neighbors might just cost her everything.
Ms. Raudman works closely with the Andrews Team, who have publicly stated in several interviews that Renée was their first (and only) choice to bring their cast of characters alive.
Renee Raudman is top of her game in the narration field. On-Camera and voice -over actress, Renée is now a multi-award winning narrator with over 300 titles under her belt. Renée has become a force in this exploding field and even has her own narration company, hiring other voice actors and even producing university textbooks into audio format, a growing business. She has read all of the Andrews books up to this point, and is adroit at voicing both male and female voices in many different accents and ages.
Top audio book bloggers Goodreads, The Audio Gals, Dear Author, HotListens.com, Anne Reviews, RabidReads.ca reviewed Clean Sweep, praising the collaboration.
Ms. Raudman tells Monsters and Critics, “Honestly, this is one of my favorite Ilona Andrew’s titles. I’m head over heals for all the lead characters and I had so much fun putting voice to each of them.. This is an unusual situation for a few reasons. This was a title that Ilona and Gordon Andrews offered as a ‘free online serial” to their loyal readers and listeners. Each week they would offer a new chapter each week online. It became such a huge hit, they decided to self publish the book when it was completed.”
She added, “To have such rave reviews for ‘Clean Sweep’ is really great news. In addition, it looks like I will be recording another eagerly anticipated work from the Ilona Andrews team, Magic Breaks, (Book 7 in the Kate Daniel’s series) in Mid-July.”
