Book Review: The Good Thief’s Guide to Amsterdam by Chris Ewan

A story with a difference – and well worth trying. I found it a bit slow to get into a first, but soon the pace stepped up and my attention with it. Charlie is an author, currently living in Amsterdam.

He also has an unusual extra activity – he is a thief.  When approached by  an American asking him to steal some worthless monkey figurines from two separate addresses on the same night, Charlie initially says no. But then his curiosity kicks in and he does the job.

Unfortunately his client is soon found dead, Charlie is kidnapped and later enjoys a spell in police custody. The police are convinced that Charlie killed the American. The only way Charlie can prove otherwise is to solve the murder.  And as he does, the opportunity presents itself for the job of a lifetime – can he get away with it?  The Three Wise Monkeys hold the key – can Charlie find it?

Lively, entertaining and an extremely good story which keeps you guessing hroughout. Charlie is a loveable hero, you smile and sympathise with his plight and wonder how he will make to the end! Definitely worth trying.
