Poor Alicia...Despite what she may think, the storm is far from over. In the wake of our bombshell revelation about Kalinda, it's only a matter of time before Alicia's world is rocked once again by her husband's past infidelity--and this time much worse because it happened with her friend.
As cases go, the murderer-rapist-turned-songwriter of "Killer Song" was one of the most disturbing on the show to date, mainly due to the graphic crime scene photos they would cut to every time the lawyers were listening to the music. Regardless of what that psychiatrist claimed about Jarvis Bowes being a different man, he was a total creep.
I believe rehabilitation is possible, but Bowes wouldn't stop smiling and talking about art, as if he hadn't ruined people's lives. It was a huge moral victory for Alicia and Will to be able to prove through his lyrics that he had brutally assaulted and killed another woman 30 years ago before he went to his mental hospital. I found myself very thankful that there is no statute of limitations on murder.
The return of America Ferrera as Natalie Flores brought out the softer side in Eli, as he came to the rescue when her father was almost deported. Without being overly political, the writers of The Good Wife have managed to raise some very interesting questions about the situation for immigrants in the U.S. through Natalie's struggle to become a citizen. In an interview with the L.A. Times, Ferrera commented on the DREAM Act, which Alicia mentioned in last night's episode:
"We’re denying education to a lot of people and we’re taking away their options for being productive citizens and, in a self-fulfilling prophecy, turning them into what we accuse them of being — not educated, not productive and not giving back."
This was a matter that was clearly weighing on Eli, given his part in exposing her as the illegal former nanny of Peter's political opponent, Wendy Scott-Carr. By the end of "Killer Song," he had redeemed himself by bringing Lockhart-Gardner in to help Natalie with her citizenship process, and then getting Natalie's father out of jail. This isn't the last we've seen of Natalie--Ferrera returns for another guest spot on the April 12th episode.
Other small seeds were planted this week: Eli rekindling the notion of Diane becoming a judge; Peter making a shady agreement with Brody from the State's Attorney's office; Cary proving to be a solid friend for Kalinda as she wrestles with her secrets being exposed.
We still have several more episodes to go, and the amazing run of guest stars will continue (including the recently announced Sarah Silverman). What does everyone want to see happen as Season 2 approaches the finale?
