"Silver Bullet" was like the calm before the storm, as pressure mounts on the Lockhart/Gardner in-fighting, Peter's campaign, and the Florrick home life.
This was an odd episode because of some uncharacteristic behavior, but it was good to see everyone a little out of their element. Diane, usually the Queen of Poise, became flustered and distracted when ballistics expert Kurt McVeigh (guest star Gary Cole) showed up asking for her help against a lawsuit. She's made a living championing liberal causes, yet she mounts a fierce defense for her Tea Party-enthusiast lover.
Political mastermind Eli was caught off guard by a charming economics student named Natalie (America Ferrera)--the former nanny of Wendy Scott-Carr, and an illegal alien. Eli set out to use Natalie to hurt Wendy's image, but after meeting this intelligent young woman putting herself through school and trying to earn her citizenship, he found himself wanting to help her. I won't go so far as to say he'll be a changed man because of this, but you could definitely see some humanity in Eli as he watched the media coverage later, regretting what he had to do to Natalie for the good of the campaign.
Grace has been exhibiting some curiosity about Christianity because of her friend, but that curiosity exploded in "Silver Bullet" with a rebellious melodrama only a teenager can manage. She doesn't know what she believes in, but she will get really angry if you don't take her seriously!!
Alicia has kept her thoughts to herself regarding Peter's post-prison enlightenment, but Grace's attitude is much more confrontational: "Why do you hate Jesus?!...Why do you need wine to discuss this?...I liked it more when you didn't work."
Other thoughts on "Silver Bullet":
-Having Jerry Stiller play a sleeping judge--underusing a funny actor, or perfection?
-After last week's intense interactions between Blake and Kalinda, I was glad for some respite. I need some time to reflect on the bomb that was dropped sometime after the strip tease/assault: Kalinda is married.
