Security Council condemns Mugabe as Zimbabwe awaits economic turmoil

The U.N. Security Council yesterday condemned the party of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe for its repeated attacks on political opponents in the lead up to the country's run-off elections, a poll which U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said would be neither "free nor fair".

The Security Council reached its decision just hours after the news broke that the country's main opposition party, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), would not be contesting the election.

In a statement released on its website Sunday, MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai said:

"We can't ask the people to cast their vote ... when that vote will cost their lives. We will no longer participate in this violent sham of an election," he said. "Mugabe has declared war, and we will not be part of that war."

Secretary General Ban Ki-moon urged the postponement of the poll saying the current circumstances was not a good sign for democracy in the region.

"The Secretary-General deeply regrets that, despite the repeated
appeals of the international community, the Government of Zimbabwe has
failed to put in place the conditions necessary for free and fair
run-off elections," according to a statement issued today by Mr. Ban's spokesperson.

"The circumstances that led to the withdrawal of Opposition leader
Morgan Tsvangirai today from the Presidential elections represents a
deeply distressing development that does not bode well for the future
of democracy in Zimbabwe," the statement added.

However economists have warned of further economic chaos is the country should Mugabe's ZANU-PF party return to power. Already crippled by economic sanctions and hyperinflation, experts warn the situation can only deteriorate.

It's a crisis in every possible direction,' said economist John Robertson. 'Financially they (the government) are stymied and they cannot move in any direction. They can't do anything about it.' [source]

Isolating this leader will only deepen the crisis in this once thriving nation. I am not so certain that it would be in the best interests of the people who need world support to get through a growing economic and food crisis. While I fully understand the opposetions reasoning for withdrawing from a run off election they did make that choice. In doing so they have made a legitimate protest but they have also given the election to the current president without a fight. Calling foul is therefore ridiculous. The choices they made are their own and it should not be used to punish a leader who even if by default is democratically elected. Transparency may not be what we hoped but it was a lot better then it could have been. Democracy is never a simple process as we in the west have learned. If our nations with longer histories in this area fail at times it is unrealistic to expect newer democracies to always get it right the first times out. Even the US with a history of over 200 years has made a hash of it lately. So the troubles there are just something that they must work through. If we try to force a leader on the people then democracy has failed and we show that we do not value the voices of the citizens of this nation.

1 man killing this ape would be justified to stop the suffering this ignorant pile of sh!t is inflicting on the people of Zimbabwe!!! 1 man with the conviction of a muslim terrorist is all it needs to rid the world of "Africas Hitler"!!!! If only 1 man had the courage to do it......

Dear Mr Balk Bstard.
Now, now, sir, calm yourself, we cannot throw ourselves into a murderous rage just because an ignorant Pile of sh!t is killing his own people. If we do this we'll become as bad as he is. There is no need to kill him outright; all we have to do is to initiate some kind of Ebola protocol on the bastard AND HIS HENCHMEN. get my meaning?
However do keep throwing ideas in the air, I'm sure someone will pick up on a good one sooner or later and carry it out.

Oh son, please repent your sins, just before they shot him of his tree and sent him to the Zoo, your father said one day you'd make him feel sorry he raped me.

Dear Mr/Mrs/Miss Fire.
You are absolutely right, I was just talking to Mugabe's mother and I told her what you said; She feels much better now and no longer wants her son put down. She now wants him to go live with his father.
She also said that if he moves in with his dad she'll send him bananas everyday to remind him of the beautiful democratic republic he so lovingly created.

I'd rather rape a courageous Ebola riddled monkey with the conviction of a muslim terrorist that have that son of a bitch come and live with me.
I'll have the bananas though, I'm starving in this Zoo!!!!

Dear Zimbabweans.
Hope you got a laugh out of all this, being one single individual there's not much more I can do for you but I promise to keep in touch.

I must advise you all that I do not have nor have I ever had Ebola. All I ever had was gonorreah, given to me during a one night liason with a man called Mugabe, I think his name was Robert but I'm not sure. I had it fixed though and there were no side effect from the antrax treatment. It didn't even bother my syphillitic fever. If any of you see Mugabe can you please tell him to go to the clinic. Or maybe not.
