The poll, the results of which were published in this AP report, involved telephone interviews with 2,124 adults conducted April 2-June 2, with most during April prior to her withdrawing from the Democratic contest.
Worringly for the Obama camp, thirty-two percent of independents strongly dislike Sen. Clinton, an area Obama must do well in if he is to challenge successfully for the presidency.

However a poll of registered Democrats which was released Friday by CNN shows the majority of those surveyed believe Obama should choose the New York Senator as his running mate.
Fifty-four percent wanted Mrs Clinton as VP contender while forty-three disagreed with her as the choice.
Of equal concern for the Democratic party is the large percentage of Clinton supporters who have stated they will either stay at home on voting day or vote Republican should she not be chosen as running mate.
Vice-presidential candidates, though important, often end up being bypassed in the voting public minds said Bob Beckel, former campaign manager to unsuccessful presidential candidate Walter Mondale.
"Mostly you don't vote for vice-president, you vote for president," he said to AP.
