The Cinderella Theory LP of George Clinton hit in the late eighties during a late in career resurgence that saw the Funk King become a darling of alt/indie bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the time.

Clinton himself bemoaned the under-performing Paisley Park release to Request' s Bill Forman in a December 1993 interview, "If I could have put that album out the way I first did it--before we remixed it and remixed it and buffed it to shinyism--my first mixes were closer to what people know us to sound and feel like. But the whole industry got into a remix situation. They remix the record before they put the record out."
Well, remixes are back to bedevil Clinton, as he is upset that Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas allegedly lifted a groove off of his work, and a federal judge has forced the Black Eyed Peas to cease and desist the funk.
North Carolina native Clinton sued the Grammy-winning pop group over the remixed "Shut Up" from the 2003 album "Elephunk."
Clinton's lawsuit states he feels the 1979 song, "(Not Just) Knee Deep" is ripped off without his permission.
He is seeking damages and an injunction to block further sales of the remixes.
The Associated Press reports that a rep for attorney Ken Hertz, who represents the Black Eyed Peas, says he doesn't comment on client issues.
