Right down the street from M&C smallscreen headquarters, actor Mel Gibson lost control of his Maserati and smacked into the steep side of the canyon en route to Malibu.
Poor poor Maserati, here is the dead Maserati's fancy cousin EPA/MARTIAL TREZZINI
TMZ reports the time of the incident as 8:35 PM.
Las Virgenes/Malibu Canyon Road is a nine mile stretch of windy rocky road that is stunning and dangerous for the sheer height and twisty narrowness which takes drivers from the western edge of Calabasas to Malibu in a 1000 foot steady descent.
The road is often used in car commercials and rural locations off the road are used to film "True Blood" and many TV shows and films.
Gibson was driving a 2008 Maserati, which had to be towed from the scene.
According to the CHP report: "For unknown reasons, Mr. Gibson steered his car to the right and struck the rock hillside. He stopped his car at the scene and was contacted by officers from the West Valley CHP Area."
Allegedly Gibson told CHP police that he didn't know how the car drifted out of lane.
Tang said his officers followed up by asking Gibson if he was on a cell phone and he said no. Tang adds officers also asked Gibson if he had dozed off "but he did not give a firm 'yes' or 'no'." Gibson just repeated several times, "I don't know how the car left the roadway."
According to the report, here were no injuries nor suspicion of DUI.
