Stay classy, Rielle Hunter and John Edwards

John Edwards was almost president of the United States.

Edwards rode to the forefront of the last Democratic primary races waving the "poor like me" flag with his tales of a tough hardscrabble youth, observing his working parents as the smart young lad won his way to college, escaping the blue collar path that was his birthright.

He wed another attorney, Elizabeth Edwards, and the two suffered the unimaginable loss of their oldest son Wade.  During his campaign for the presidency, he relied on Elizabeth to drive home his values of being a solid family man who stuck by no matter what curve balls life threw at him.

Edwards wasn't counting on the tenacity of the National Enquirer, and say what you will about that venerated and despised tabloid, they get it damned near right every time.

One intrepid reporter, Rick Egusquiza, got a tip that Edwards was having an affair and there was more, he had a child with this alleged mistress,  After stakeouts and painstaking research, the Enquirer team pulled the rug out from under Edwards during his campaign, discovering the truth: Rielle Hunter was his mistress and the mother of a child out of wedlock.

Mainstream media didn't even budge, they ignored the Enquirer's legwork and report, viewing the magazine as a reprehensible tabloid beneath them that would publish any lies to sell.

But MSM was wrong, and had egg on their face as the former senator John Edwards finally buckled from the heaviness of carrying so many lies. Lo and behold, the New York Times and all the other big boys of print were late to the party that the Enquirer revealed in the nick of time, to prevent a real mendacious jackass from being elected president.

Now GQ has given a lovely platform for the mistress to speak, even though the man is yet to be divorced, and his ex wife is battling breast cancer and not faring well. Instead of laying low and waiting until it was a decent time to emerge, speak out, Rielle Hunter has a PR team in place making sure she makes the magazine rounds, next stop: Oprah, Ellen and all the chatters.

The GQ piece is a blatantly fluffy poofball of virtual ink as the writer gushes over Hunter's "size 2 jeans" and how pretty she is in person.

GQ writer Lisa DePaulo foams: "Hunter had fluffed up the tiny guest room upstairs—carefully placing a Zen-sayings paperback beside the twin bed—and invited me to stay overnight, with a warning that the three of us (she, Quinn, and I) would have to share the one bathroom, where the tub is filled with her daughter's rubber duckies. I accepted."

An excerpt from DePaulo's lathering interview:

"DePaulo asks: You haven't uttered a word so far. Why now?
Hunter replies, 'I feel comfortable talking now, because Johnny went public and made a statement admitting paternity. I didn't feel like I could ever speak until he did that. Because had I spoken, I would have emasculated him. And I could not emasculate him. Also, it is not my desire to teach my daughter that when Mommy's upset with Daddy, you take matters into your own hands and fix Daddy's mistakes. Which I view as one of the biggest problems in all female-and-male relationships.' "

Apparently sister publication (AMI) to the Enquirer, Star magazine, insinuated that Rielle had a fling Jeff Goldblum.

Hunter tells GQ: "I think Jeff Goldblum is a fantastic, gracious, wonderful man. I have never had a romantic fling with him. Ever. But it's funny you ask that next, because the connection I have with Jeff Goldblum is of a spiritual base. I've known him for many years, and at one point I was attempting to create a TV show for him about a loser guy who was perceived as a guru. Sort of a takeoff of the Peter Sellers movie Being There."
