The Color Purple closes today

New York: The Color Purple plays its final performance today at the Broadway Theater. The musical will have played 910 performances since opening on December 1, 2005.

The cast at the time of closing includes Zonya Love as Celie, Chaka Khan Williams as Sofia, Darlesia Cearcy as Nettie, Angela Robinson as Shug, Alton Fitzgerald White as Mister, BeBe Winans as Dixon Harpo, Krisha Marcana as Squeak, Larry Marshall as 'Ol Mister, and LaKisha Jones as Church Soloist.

The Color Purple features music by Brenda Russell, Alee Willis, and Stephen Bray and a book by Marsha Norman. The creative team includes choreography by Donald Byrd, scenic design by Lee Beatty, costume design by Paul Tazewell, and lighting design by Brian MacDevitt.

The Color Purple tells the story of Celie, who endures insurmountable hardships within her own family and struggles to find her identity and love.
