Taipei - A dozen foreign poets including several human rights activists gathered in Taipei Saturday for the 8th Taipei Poetry Festival.

Foreign poets included Lao Che of China, Jennifer Kronovet of the US, Jean Lewinski of France, Diana Der-Hovanessian of Armenia, Nguyen Quang Thieu of Vietnam and Vim Nadera of the Philippines.

During the week-long event, the foreign poets will hold reading and dialogue sessions with host poets and readers.

The festival is organized by the Taipei City government to promote poetry and cultural exchange. Most of the invited foreign poets come from Asia because the theme of this year's poetry festival is Asia.
