Laura Benanti Joins The Wedding Singer

As previously reported Stephen Lynch will take the title role in the musical, Robbie. The cast is also expected to feature Felicia Finley as Linda, Matthew Saldivar as Sammy, Jason Antoon as Jimmy, Rita Gardner as Rosie, and Richard H. Blake as Glenn.
No official announcement regarding the cast has been announced yet.
The musical will feature music by Matthe Sklar, lyrics by Chad Beguelin, and book by Tim Herlihy. John Rando is expected to direst with choreography by Rob Ashford.
According to an announcement, the musical concerns "Robbie Hart, [who] lives in his grandmother’s basement in New Jersey and sings in a wedding band. His dreams of being a singer/songwriter are long gone, replaced now by a burning desire to find the right girl and settle down. When his fiancée leaves him standing at the altar, he becomes a wedding planner’s worst nightmare, taking out his bitterness on stage . . . until his eye—and heart—turn to a new friend, Julia, but she’s engaged to a wealthy Wall Street broker."
The musical will premiere at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theater beginning January 31, 2006 for a run until February 19th. It is then set move to New York in April where it will begin its Broadway run.
