Stephen Lynch
New York: Broadway.com is reporting that Stephen Lynch will take the title role in the upcoming Broadway musical The Wedding Singer . Lynch played the role in the readings for the musical. The cast is also expected to feature Felicia Finley as Linda, Matthew Saldivar as Sammy, Jason Antoon as Jimmy, Rita Gardner as Rosie, and Richard H. Blake as Glenn.
Lynch has three solo recording to his name, Half a Man, A Little Bit Special, and Superhero . He also had his own comedy special on Comedy Central in 2000.
The movie version starring Adam Sandler followed a singer, (Sandler) who performs the hits of the 1980s at weddings, and his quest for love. The film featured songs such as "Hold Me Now", "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me", "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic", "Rappers Delight", and "White Wedding." The musical will feature music by Matthe Sklar, lyrics by Chad Beguelin, and book by Tim Herlihy. John Rando is expected to direst with choreography by Rob Ashford.
The musical will premiere at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theater beginning January 31, 2006 for a run until February 19th. It is then set move to New York in April where it will begin its Broadway run.
