Jerry Springer Tour Postponed

Jerry Springer The OperaAlmost one-third of the theatres who had agreed to run the show have changed their minds, apparently because they are worried about any Christian Voice led protests. The producer of Springer, John Thoday, told the Stage Newspaper that the tour will now begin in January 2006 as long as more theatres don’t pull out. “We are absolutely determined to make it happen . . . and we thank the theatres that are being supportive. Jerry Springer has won more awards than any other new musical written by British writers. That small group of reactionary individuals cannot stop something being presented."The Ambassadors Theatre Group issued a statement in support of the show, insisting, “We look forward to bringing this multi award-winning production to a wider audience in the U.K.”The Christian Voice told the paper that they are calling for a “prayer vigil” outside any theatre which shows the musical.Jerry Springer The Opera has come under scrutiny after the BBC aired the musical, causing thousands of complaints from viewers. BBC executives received death threats as well. Recently a cancer charity turned down money raised by the show after urgings from the Christian Voice.

I wish to denounce the showing of this blasphemous production of Jerry Springer the Movie. We have seen the regard Muslim people have for their god and their reactions. Let me assure you Christian people continue to pray that the one and only true God will not allow this production to go ahead. I urge you to respect our wishes and not perform this evening or any subsequent one. You are already breaking a commandment 'Do not take God's name in vain'
