Leaves of Lorien to Fall on Toronto not London

The producers of the show have announced the $22 million 'musical' will start its' run in Toronto, Canada instead.The world premiere will now be at the Toronto's Prince of Wales Theatre in Toronto March 2006.All the theatres in London that were big enough to put on the show were fully booked up with various hit musicals running in the West end.The producer of the show, Kevin Wallace said: "I know there will be a lot of disappointed British Tolkien fans who hoped to see the show in London, but we couldn't get a London theatre in time."He went on to say under a deal made with the Canadian Actors' Equity up to five of the cast could be from the UK, with auditions expected to start this week in Canada.Wallace also calmed fears of dancing hobbits and capering Dwarves, "there will be no singing and dancing Hobbits. The music will be in a very traditional mould and draw on ethnic traditions," he said.The music is being written by AR Rahman best known for his Bollywood work and Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Bollywood Dreams." He will be teaming up with Finnish group Varttina to compose the score.Wallace promises a spectacular show, but not one reliant only on special effects: "Only in the theatre are we actually plunged into the events as they happen. The environment surrounds us and we are in Middle Earth," he said. Elaborating it would be a mixture of text, physical theatre and spectacle.
