Brett Neveu's The Opponent sees Donal Logue and Dulé Hill pair in scene

An intimate rehearsal room reading of a new play by Brett Neveu starring Donal Logue and Dulé Hill has been announced.

Set in the Rock and Anvil Boxing Gym in Lafayette, Louisiana, The Opponent follows the combative relationship between a young fighter (Dulé Hill) and his hard-bitten trainer (Donal Logue) as they prepare for a do-or-die fight that ultimately changes the direction of their lives.

Written in 2010 as part of Center Theatre Group’s Writers’ Workshop, this intimate reading in the Kirk Douglas Theatre rehearsal room (only 50 seats!) is the next step in the play’s development. 

The presentation will be followed by a Q&A with the playwright and a representative from Center Theatre Group’s Literary Department.  Elephant Theatre Company Artistic Director David Fofi directs.  Tickets for this general admission event are just $10.

The venue is the Kirk Douglas Theatre, located in Culver City is the newest of the Center Theatre Group’s family of theatres.  The 317-seat venue, located in a newly renovated historic theatre at 9820 Washington Blvd. in Culver City.

Playwright Brett Neveu’s most recent productions include The Earl (The Inconvenience), Odradek (The House Theatre) and Do The Hustle (Writers’ Theatre). Mr. Neveu ‘s work has also been produced at The Royal Court Theatre, Goodman Theatre, The Royal Shakespeare Company, A Red Orchid Theatre, TimeLine Theatre Company and American Theater Company.

Dulé Hill (Donell Fuseles) starred in the original  Broadway cast of Bring in Da' Noise, Bring In Da' Funk.  Additional Broadway credits include Black and Blue, Shenandoah, The Little Rascals, Dutchman and The Tap Dance Kid.  He stars in the USA Network series "Psych."  He received an Emmy Award Nomination for his role as the Charlie Young on ABC’s The West Wing.  His film credits include Edmond, The Guardian, Holes, Sugar Hill, She’s All That, Sexual Life, Remarkable Power.

Donal Logue (Tremont “Tre” Billiford) has had many stand out roles in both film and television, most notably his starring role in The Tao of Steve, the story of a larger-than-life, philosophizing lothario, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival, and won Logue a Special Jury Prize for Outstanding Performance.  Some of Logue’s other film credits include Sneakers, Gettysburg, Little Women, Jerry Maguire, Blade, Runaway Bride,  Reindeer Games, The Million Dollar Hotel, The Patriot, Comic Book Villans,   Confidence, Just Like Heaven, Ghost Rider, Zodiac and Charlie St. Cloud.  In television Logue most recently starred in Shawn Ryan’s critically acclaimed show "Terriers" for FX.  Logue headlined and  executive produced the ABC comedy The "Knights of Prosperity" and starred in the Carsey-Warner produced show, "Grounded for Life."  To learn more,   visit www.donallogue.com.
