New York - Spider-Man is to cast his net over Broadway this winter, with the musical based on the exploits of the legendary arachnid super hero set to debut in New York's theatre district in November, its producer announced Tuesday.
The musical, entitled Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark, will start preview performances at the Foxwoods Theatre on November 14, with the official opening night set for December 21, lead producer Michael Cohl said. Tickets go on sale Saturday with prices ranging from 67.50 dollars to 140 dollars.
With a budget of more than 50 million dollars, the production is thought to be the most expensive musical ever mounted.
Directed by Julie Taymor, the creator of The Lion King, the musical will feature music by Bono and The Edge of U2, and a special suspended flight system for the super hero stars designed by a team from Cirque du Soleil.
