New York - Exploring how images shape people's perceptions of themselves and the world - that was how the tightly-knit group of artists who called themselves the 'The Pictures Generation' saw their role.
Until August 2, their works are being showcased at the New York Metropolitan Art Museum in the exhibition. 'The Pictures Generation 1974-1984'. It is the first major retrospective devoted to the group and features 160 works - photos, videos and installations - from 30 artists, including Richard Prince, Cindy Sherman and Robert Longo.
Their works are often considered in isolation, but experts say the collective achievement of the group is an important chapter in the history of contemporary art.
