The Glass Menagerie is set in the 1930's and is about a young man, Tom, who is tired of taking care of his family after his father abandoned them sixteen years ago. Laura, Tom's sister, is so painfully shy that she cannot bear to leave the house. Their mother Amanda decides Laura needs to marry so Tom brings home a friend of his, Jim O'Connor for her to meet.
Other reports have said that the play will be directed by David Leveaux, who has recently directed Fiddler on the Roof, and that Natalie would be joined by two-time Academy Award winner Jessica Lange to play her mother Amanda, Robert Sean Leonard as Amanda's son Tom and Ethan Hawke as Jim O'Connor. The play is also reported to open this coming winter at the Music Box Theatre.
