New York: The upcoming Manhattan Theatre Club production of Kenneth Lonergan's The Starry Messenger has cancelled its run. According to a release "scheduling conflicts make it impossible to proceed in the alloted time slot. A replacement production will be announced shorly."
The play was to be directed by Longergan and star Matthew Broderick in the lead role. It was to have played Off-Broadway's City Center beginning February 7, 2008.
In The Starry Messenger, Mark works at the Hayden Planetarium, teaching Upper West Siders about the mysteries of the galaxy. But when this fortysomething married man meets a pretty young single mother, his own solar system begins spinning out of control, forcing him to come to terms with the inertia that is his life. Is it too late to try and re-connect with his wife and son? And how did his middling career get so badly off track?
