New York: James Carpinello will not return to the role of Sonny in Broadway's Xanadu as originally planned. The actor was injured while roller skating during previews for the musical. Cheyenne Jackson, who was to replace Carpinello temporarily, will now take over the role permanently.

Along with Jackson, the musical currently stars Kerry Butler as Kira. The rest of the cast includes Tony Roberts as Danny, Jackie Hoffman as Calliope, Mary Testa as Melpoleny, Andre Ward as Terpsicore, Curtis Holbrook as Thalia, Kenita Miller as Erato, and Anika Larson as Euterpe.

The musical features music and lyrics by John Farrar and Jeff Lynne and a book by Douglas Carter Beane. Christopher Ashley directs.

The creative team includes costume design by David Zinn, choreography by Dan Knechtges, set design by David Gallo, and lighting design by Howard Binkley.

In the production, Kira, a Greek muse, is sent to Earth to inspire mortals and artists in Venice, CA, in the 1980's. While on earth, Kira falls in love with an artist when helping him realize his dreams.
