New York: The Color Purple is set to welcome three new cast members, Chaka Khan, BeBe Winans, and 2007 American Idol finalist LaKisha Jones. All will be making their Broadway debuts. Jones will join the musical on December 19th as the Church Soloist, the character who opens the show with the rousing gospel number "Mysterious Ways”, at all evening performances as well as Sofia at all matinee performances beginning January 9, 2008. Khan and Winans will begin performances January 9th as Sofia and Harpo respectively.

The musical opened at the Broadway Theater on December 1, 2005 and currently stars Fantasia Barrino as Celie, NaTasha Yvette Williams as Sofia, Darlesia Cearcy as Nettie, Elizabeth Withers as Shug, Alton Fitzgerald as Mister, Chaz Lamar Shepherd as Dixon Harpo, Krisha Marcana as Squeak, and Larry Marshall as 'Ol Mister.
The Color Purple tells the story of Celie, who endures insurmountable hardships within her own family and struggles to find her identity and love.
