Jerry Springer the Opera to make New York debut

New York: Controversial musical, Jerry Springer the Opera, is set to make its New York debut next year at Carnegie Hall. The production will play the famed hall on January 29th and 30th. Jason Moore is set to direct with musical direction by Stephen Oremus.

Jerry Springer the Opera made its London premiere at the National Theatre before going on to play the West End's Cambridge Theatre. It was awarded the 2004 Olivier Award for Best Musical. A planned BBC broadcast of the musical in 2005 caused quite a stir involving reports of death threats as well as charges of blasphemy over the airing. The musical features lyrics, music, and book by Richard Thomas and Stewart Lee.
