London : The Menier Chocolate Factory production of Little Shop of Horrors plays its final performance at the Ambassadors Theatre today. It won't be the end for the musical though, a national tour in being planned for next year.
Little Shop of Horrors premiered at the Chocolate Factory last year before opening at the Duke of York's Theatre on March 12th. It began performances at the Ambassadors on June 27th.
Starring in the musical is Sheridan Smith as Audrey, Paul Keating as Seymour, Barry James as Mr. Mushnik, Mike McShane as Audrey II, and Aistair McGowan as Orin Scrivello.
The musical, based on Roger Corman's 1960 film features music and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken. The creative team features design by David Farley and direction by Matthew White.
Little Shop of Horrors concerns down and out Skid Row floral assistant Seymour who becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon “Audrey II” grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore offering him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite… but as Audrey II’s hungry demands increase, all that Seymour holds dear is threatened as the plant’s sinister agenda for global domination is revealed.
