Rock 'n' Roll transfers to Broadway
By Amy Somensky May 17, 2007, 4:19 GMT
New York: Tom Stoppard's Rock 'n' Roll, which was seen in London last year, will make the jump to Broadway in the fall. Previews will begin at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on October 19, 2007 with an official opening set for November 4th.
The stars of the London production, Brian Cox, Sinead Cusack, and Rufus Sewell, will reprise their roles in the Broadway run. Sewell was awarded an Olivier Award for his performance in the drama. Joining them will be Nicole Ansari and Alice Eve, also original London cast members. Trevor Nunn will also reprise his directing duties.
Rock 'n' Roll premiered at the Royal Court Theatre last summer before transferring to the West End's Duke of York's Theatre where it ran through February 2007.
The creative team features design by Rob Jones, lighting design by Howard Harrison, costume design by Emma Ryott, and sound design by Ian Dickinson.
Rock 'n' Roll spans the recent history of Czechoslovakia between the Prague Spring and the Velvet Revolution - but from the double perspective of Prague, where a rock 'n' roll band came to symbolise resistance to the regime, and the British left, represented by a Communist philosopher at Cambridge.
