London : The West End revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's Evita plays its final performance today at the Adelphi Theatre. It will have played just under a year having opened on June 21, 2006.
Starring in the musical is Elena Roger as Eva, Philip Quast as Juan Peron, Matt Rawle as Che, Lorna Want as Juan Peron's mistress, Gary Milner as Magaldi, and Abbie Osman as the alternate Eva.
The creative team includes design by Christopher Oram, choreography by Rob Ashford, lighting design by Paule Constable, sound design by Mick Potter, and direction by Michael Grandage.
This production of Evita is the first major West End revival of the musical since its debut in 1978. It premiered on Broadway in 1979. Madonna and Antonio Banderas starred in a 1996 film version which featured a new song titled "You Must Love Me." That song will also be included in this new production.
Evita is based on the life and times of Eva Perón, the second wife of Argentine dictator Juan Perón. It chronicles her life as Argentina’s most complex and powerful figure, against a backdrop of political unrest, until her tragic death of cancer in 1952.
