2006-2007 Drama League Winners

New York: The winners of the 73rd annual Drama League awards were announced this morning at a luncheon hosted by Gary Beach at the Marriot Marquis Hotel. Winners in the major productions included Spring Awakening for Distinguished Production of a Musical, The Coast of Utopia for Distinguished Production of a Play, Company for Distinguished Revival of a Musical, and Journey's End for Distinguished Revival of a Play.
Liev Schreiber was chosen from a 75 member dais as the winner of the Distinguished Performance Award. He was honored for his current performance as Barry Champlain in Talk Radio as well as starring as the title role in last summer's Shakespeare in the Park production of Macbeth.
Michael Mayer, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, and John Kander and Fred Ebb were awarded the Drama League's Special Awards. Mayer, who recently directed Spring Awakening, received the Julia Hansen Award for Excellance in Directing. BCEFA was given the Unique Contribution to the Theatre Award, and John Kander and the late Fred Ebb were awarded the Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theatre Award.
