New York : Gauer Mauer will join Broadway's The Phantom of the Opera as the masked man on April 30th. Mauer will sub for the vacationing Howard McGillin through May 19th. McGillin returns on the 21st. Mauer holds the record for playing The Phantom's nemesis, Raoul, more than anyone else in the Broadway production - over 1,500 times.
Mauer joins a cast the currently includes Jennifer Hope Wills as Christine Daae, Michael Shawn Lewis as Raoul, David F. Cryer as Monsieur Firmin, George Lee Andrews as Monsieur Andre, Ann Runolfsson as Carlotta Giudicelli, Marilyn Caskey as Madame Giry, Roland Rusinek Ulbaldo Piangi, and Heather McFadden as Meg Giry.
Based on Gaston Leroux's novel, The Phantom tells the story of a deformed man haunts the underground of the Paris Opera House. He falls in love with a young woman, Christine, whom he is teaching to perfect her voice. He exerts a strange control over her especially when she begins to fall in love with the handsome Raoul, and causes mayhem when things do not go his way.
