London : The National Theatre production of Rafta, Rafta... opens today at the Lyttelton.
The production stars Arsher Ali as Etash Tailor, Rudi Dharmalingam as Jai Dutt, Kriss Dosanjh as Laxman Patel, Rokhsaneh Ghawam-Shahidi as Vina Patel, Ronny Jhutti as Atul Dutt, Shaheen Khan as Lata Patel, Simon Nagra as Jivaj Bhatt, Harish Patel as Eeshwar Dutt, and Meera Syal as Lopa Dutt.
Rafta, Rafta... is written by Ayub Khan-Din and is based on All in Good Times by Bill Naughton. The production features design by Tim Hatley, lighting design by Hugh Vanstone, and direction by Nicholas Hytner.
The wedding feast is over and his father's dancing the bhangra, but the groom himself is busy on the net, and when it's time for bed, he's so woefully inhibited by the proximity of his parents, let alone his brother's childish pranks, that his beautiful virgin bride remains just that. Six weeks later, the whole family start to panic.
